Holidays at Lake Caldaro in South Tyrol

As the warmest bathing lake in the Alps, Lake Caldaro is one of the most popular destinations in South Tyrol. Here, you can swim, windsurf, sail, pedal or row a boat, or simply lounge and relax in the sun. Whether in spring, summer, or autumn – not far from our hotels by the lake in South Tyrol, you can swim from mid-May to early October. Due to the shallow depth of Lake Caldaro, the largest bathing lake in all of South Tyrol, the water already reaches a temperature of 17°C to 19°C in the second half of May and 26°C to 28°C in summer. Best of all: as guests of our Hotel Das Badl you enjoy free access to the Lido Seegarten on Lake Caldaro as part of our inclusive services!

Scientists have found over 100 different bird species here. Sailing and surfing on holiday in Kaltern am See

The south wind “Ora”, which usually blows in the late afternoon, makes Lake Caldaro/Kaltern not only a perfect venue for sailors, but also a paradise for windsurfers! Windsurfing at Lake Caldaro/Kaltern is one of the most popular sporting activities – and not only for South Tyroleans and guests of our hotels at Lake Caldaro/Kaltern in South Tyrol. Since the 70s, people have been windsurfing here, and over the years, the picturesque lake has become a hotspot for surfers. From March on, optimal windsurfing conditions prevail at Lake Caldaro/Kaltern with stable high-pressure weather conditions. In the afternoon, the “Ora” reaches top conditions from 4 to 6 on the Beaufort scale. Windsurfing is particularly popular here in spring, as the average water temperature is already 13°C in April and 19°C in May.

Have you always wanted to try sailing or windsurfing, but haven’t had the chance yet? Then take advantage of the sailing and windsurfing offer at Lake Caldaro and register for a trial day! At our hotel in Kaltern am See, Das Badl, and at our hotel in Eppan in South Tyrol, Ansitz Angerburg, we happy to help you with the planning.

Montiggl lakes: twice the bathing fun

The Montiggl lakes belong to the most picturesque places around Kaltern and are not far away from our Ansitz Angerburg. Nestled in fragrant pine forests, the small and the big lake both attract visitors all year round. We recommend a leisurely walk around the lake in the colourful autumn forest, a bathing day in summer, or a rowing boat trip in spring. In 2018, the Montiggl lakes were once again awarded the five sails (Cinque Vele) of Legambiente, making them one of the cleanest bathing lakes in Italy.

Tip: At the large lake of Montiggl, there is a leisure pool with the longest water slide in South Tyrol. Ideal for combining outdoor fun with swimming pleasure. At the somewhat more secluded small lake of Montiggl, idyllically nestled in the forest, guests of our hotel by the lake in South Tyrol will find a little more peace and quiet.
